Matomo is an open-source, all-in-one web analytics platform that provides detailed reports on your websites and visitors, including the search engine keywords. It delivers 100% data ownership to measure internal analytics data without sharing sensitive information with third-party providers.
Katalyst chose AWS as a cloud service provider to host the solution.
- Chosen Matomo application runs in Amazon EC2 instances behind application load balancers to distribute incoming traffic to minimize latency and maximize fault tolerance.
- Configured application for high availability across multiple availability zones.
- Selected AWS Relational Database Service (RDS) MySQL in Multi-Availability Zone and use parameter groups to tune the performance. Matomo is a data-intensive application, and the performance is tied to the database server performance.
- Enabled database session storage and sync config.ini.php on the servers behind the load balancer and forward the source IP address to the web servers.
- Chose a lightweight webserver Nginx for performance and scalability over traditional web servers.
- Observed that PHP7.x provides substantial performance improvements and comes with PHP Cache.
The Challenge
- Klarinet wanted to implement Matomo Analytics for SharePoint sites to understand user behavior and increase collaboration between their intranet customers.
- Matomo provides real-time insights to customers by providing custom dashboards into usage patterns, user flows and paths, and activity heatmaps. Organizations can tailor their intranet platform to deliver the best workplace experience by leveraging intranet analytics.
- The platform required reliability, high performance, low cost, and security to provide real-time reports.
